In Search of a Lost Future

Seems like a lot of people I know have felt lately that they have lost their way.  Maybe its due to the fact that I know a lot of people who have reached or who are approaching the age of 40.  A lot of us (myself very much included) are in search of future that seems lost, or at least very uncertain.  Its not a good feeling.  The thought that my friends seem to have it as bad as I do is little comfort.  A few friends are going through very painful divorces and are trying to make sense of a life turned upside down.  Other are trying to overcome past mistakes - trying to start again but having a tough time getting the engine to turn.  Some of us have lost jobs and are trying to avoid that uneasy feeling of being disconnected to the world at large.

So what to do?  What else - keep moving, listen to and try to help your friends as best you can, get outside your own mind, your sorrow over the past and fear of the future.  Most of the time this does the trick alright.  An optimistic outlook can be hard to sustain however.  Sometimes you feel the inertia required to navigate life come to a slow, sickening halt.  When it happens to me, its as if I am outside myself watching the wheels hit the mud and come to an uneasy rest.  Not as dramatic as a crash.  Just a full stop and the thought that OK, in a bit I'll have to figure out a way to get unstuck and moving again...
